Damage claims investigation

Claims work often has several interests- owners, underwriters, third parties.  Jackson is known as a thorough investigator and careful researcher. He’s easy to work with and knows when to ask for particular outside expertise.

Purchase surveys

The time to survey a boat is before it is bought and paid for. During the process buying of a boat, an offer is made that is often subject to sea trial and survey. This enables the buyer to be an informed consumer. An offer "subject to survey" provides the opportunity to negotiate if problems are found or to rescind the purchase offer if the boat does not meet the intial expectations. Banks require a current survey in order to process a loan. Insurance companies need a current survey in order to write an insurance policy for a vessel.
At Pacific Rim Marine Surveyors, we welcome the participation of the buyer, seller, and broker in the survey process.

Insurance surveys

If you have owned a boat for some time, you know that your insurance company will ask for an updated survey report periodically. This gives a report on how the boat compares to good marine practice and alerts them and you to any safety issues.

Owner's agent

A boat owner often needs a representative to check on repairs or new construction. Occasionally a repair job does not meet the owner's expectations or requirements. In that case the surveyor's job is to determine the facts while maintaining a neutral, unbiased position.

Expert witness

Pacific Rim Marine Surveyors has been called upon to provide expert testimony in various situations from lawsuits to failure analysis. This can involve giving a deposition, testifying in court, or providing analysis services.

Qualified Appraisals

The purpose of a Qualified Appraisal is to determine the current market value of property. As well as being a NAMS Certified Marine Surveyor, David Jackson is certified in The Uniform Standards of Appraisal Practice (USPAP) the standard of the appraisal industry. Qualified Appraisals are required by the IRS for donations over $5000.
